  • Why do your headers have a full flange, and the two sets I have that look like those have individual cylinder flanges?

it all depends on the manufacturer. the ones with a full flange are sometimes thinner & you need to be careful not to warp/bend
the flange cause it will leak. years ago the hot rodders would split the flange to correct a leak.

        • These headers are Hedman & have a nice thick flange. Here is a link with the details on the headers. https://www.jegs.com/i/Hedman/500/88408/10002/-1

The ones that came with my Mark VII engine were individual flanges. I haven't been around too many fox bodies, but I'd say you're right.

              • Yeah, them being Hedmans is probably why. Probably a better header, too. I like the coating on those, should last a long time. I wanted to use them on mine, but my steering box was in the way, had to use Explorer manifolds to clear it.

                  F84SS,
Are they really pinched at the flange to allow large-head header bolts? As I recall the OEM headers that were on my '85 GT 5.0L/5spd convertible were really pinched. I changed them out for a set of JBA shorties....which worked out well.

                  • Today I removed the engine from the stand & placed it on a dolly & installed the pilot bearing, engine block plate & the flywheel.

As a matter of fact, yeah, they are pinched pretty bad. I think they flow better than cast manifolds anyway, but I could be wrong.

Mike, you're killing me! I'm really second guessing painting mine Ford truck gray now! Hurry up and get that puppy in, I want to see it on the road soon!

                      • Today before it got too hot & humid I installed a new harmonic balancer instead of using the 32 year old Ford one, 10.5" King Cobra clutch disc, pressure plate, & installed the bell housing.

                            • Well today was a nice day in the low 80's, so my wife & I decided to install the engine in the Mustang. I did the grunt work & she operated the engine hoist.

                              • Looking GREAT, Mike! Definitely a milestone mark along the Renovation Road of your '69 coupe.

You had better take your wife out to her favorite place to eat for helping with this task!

GREAT JOB - your SBF looks mighty happy in between those shock towers!
