  • I'm easy

Next item I took care of on the EXP was door & hatchback locks.

Since this car was ridden hard and put away wet (stolen, went to a tow yard, then a car lot for dreary vehicles) and was pretty much trashed, I didn't even get keys with it. The ignition switch had been torn out of it so I had to deal with that on top of everything else.

Not having any locks, my toolbox has been secured by a heavy cable and padlock. Problem remained that I couldn't leave anything loose in the car while it was out in public.

Now I have some semblance of security. This makes me happy!

Other items now taken care of are the lift struts for the hatchback.

I ordered a pair from what you'd call a quality local parts house and was OK with the extra $11 for shipping, regardless of how things turned out. I ordered them here primarily because they had a three-year warranty rather than others I'd heard about that were only one year.

Turned out that even though they were the correct part number for the car, they wouldn't help with the lift much, and wouldn't even hold the thing up once it was there. NOTE: This hatchback is incredibly heavy! I thought the original struts weren't doing anything until I took them off. It was almost all I could do to lift the damn thing!

Anyway, disgruntled, I returned the new set. Hearing about the shortcoming, the sales person went to great lengths to get me some satisfaction. He figured out what the lifting capacity of the pair I had ordered was and found a part number for some that had similar physical characteristics but that had ~40% more poop. Problem was, it would have taken quite a while to get them, so he shopped around locally until he found a place that could get them right away (AutoZone, of all places!). This pair only had a one-year warranty, but at this juncture, I didn't care. I got a refund for the first set--along with the $11 I had paid for shipping! He thought I shouldn't have to pay it since the items didn't do the job. Outstanding!

        The new pair worked great!

I was pretty impressed with the guy that had helped out so much. Not every day that a parts person is sufficiently informed and is willing go way out of their way to please the customer. I know his boss, and you can bet that I'll be paying the both of them a well-deserved compliment.

That’s great customer service right there! Most places don’t give a rip if you’re satisfied or not.

That’s cool, sounds like a good old fashioned parts man.
