  • Another C4 questions

    Hi again guys.

As a few of you might know I am new to Auto trannys and am attempting to rebuild my C4. I am a little concerned about the oil pump system. Are they prone to wear and failure? Summit offers a pump for around $240, but I added all my numbers up including this for a reuild and I might be better off buying a new TCI trans... I want to build my own but still be cheaper than a new trans.
Thanks for all your help guys!

Wes....Step away and collect yourself........Then say NO to TCI !!!!!

The pumps don't wear to bad. Open it up and check it out. As long as you haven't had debre forced through it it can be used. You can even get new pump gears fairly cheap(under $15). Just check that the housing isn't scared much on the inside.

Even if you think it's not usable, you can get a new(rebuilt) pump WAY cheaper than Summit's $240 price. I think they sell PA stuff. Over rated in my opinion. You can call JPT or a few other places and get a way better deal.

Just courious, what is the big deal with TCI? I am new to the automatic world also. Are they just over rated and over priced? I have talked with my local tranny shop and they said they could rebuild my C4 with transbrake and reverse manual v/b for about $800-$900. Is that price inline?

TCI has been through many changes and owners over the years.
They are now owned by Comp and are really trying to get on track, but just can't seem to get the quality up.

That is a very reasonable price, but remember....you only get what you pay for.

Alex, thanks for the info. My local tranny guy builds alot of trannnies for other guys at the track. So I have seen how they hold up. But you think that is a reasonable price, huh.

                      Jpt

Hello. Bought my C4 Valve body from Jim at JPT on Alexs' recommendation.

Service, pricing is unbeatable. Certainly a pleasure to do business with and I agree with a previous comment....it's hard to find that these days.

Like Alex says, " you get what you pay for".

If in doubt, go with JPT!
