...do you all think it would be to fabricate my own frame perches and mounts for a 460 in my truck?

There are factory pieces that will work, but I have been unlucky in finding frame perches. Stock motor mounts can be had from any parts place. Transdapt makes "custom" swap mounts, but they want about $250 for a set.

I'm all for making my own, but how do I go about it? Do I slip the motor/trans combo in and measure? How do I know where to locate everything?

Some info that might make a difference:

Truck has a 302/c4 in it right now. I'm going to a 460/c6. I don't know if I'll need a different transmission crossmember.

This body style didn't have the engine centered in the bay from the factory. It was offset slightly to the passenger side.

I'm confident I could make something if I knew what and where to measure.

Unless someone has some factory 460 perches from a 73-79 F-150 2wd laying around they would like to sell me.

I don't know if this helps but I have a set of swap mounts for a 78 bronco and a 460 you can have and before I junk the bronco I could cut out the factory mounts for you. I also have swap headers for the truck as well, all of the stuff has about 10 hours of play time on them. I am junking the truck anyway this spring so if you need anything let me know.

Here is what we came up with many years ago. The following has worked in a 66 F100, 68 F100 and a 75 F100.

Use the 302 stands you already have and 390 truck motor mounts. You can use the 6cyl/352-390 stands but the 302 stands allows the motor to set alittle lower. I can't remember which set of holes(front or back) you use to bolt the stands to the frame but it want be hard to figure out. By rotating the mounts you can get 2 bolts to line up on the 429-460 blocks. You will need to longate the holes in the 302 stands alittle so the stud can go thru. Use the factory trans cross member, you may have to drill 2 new holes to bolt it to the frame just depends on the trans tail housing you use.

With this set up you can run headers made for a 77-79 with a 460.

Joe, this seems like a very nice offer!

            Thanks for the help guys.

Steve- I've seen the L&L stuff, problem is, it come with everything but the perches and that is the part I need.

Poppy65- That's a great offer. I'll have to do some investigating. Not sure if the Bronco/4wd stuff will work. I do need headers too.

frdpwr- I'll have to do some looking there too. I have 302 stands now.

            Thanks guys.
