  • I must be getting old & cranky....................

because of my wife`s work schedule & people with a serious lack of respect for sales people ( read show up at the last minute
before closing time ) we hit fast food joints for our supper 2 or 3 times a week.
about 50% of the time we just use the drive thru. if either of us is alone in the vehicle it seems NO one has the sense to put 2 drinks in a
carrier much less hand out napkins. we ALWAYS have to ask for a drink holder/carrier plus napkins or straws.
this is not just the kids, this is also older employees & managers doing this

I can still remember my early working days at a sandwich / ice cream shop & I was taught to hand out these items every time.
if someone had to ask for these & the boss heard it you had the worst duties the rest of the week !
then when I was a bus boy / table set up & janitor at a restaurant, the boss would read you the riot act if anything was omitted on
a table or the napkin dispenser was empty.
every job I have held, I was responsible for the details or little extras that are needed to complete the job !

I guess it comes down to common sense & observing the situation at hand.
I think we seriously NEED the older folks to teach the next 2 incoming generations how things are supposed to be done because they sure
leave a lot to be desired...... in my opinion!!!!!!!. rant over............................

It's not just fast food places, it's anywhere retail. Wife went to a KFC last week, ordered a 3 piece ALL WHITE meat chicken plate for me and some other stuff for her. When she got home, we emptied the bag, and she had an extra sandwich she didn't order, didn't have the fries that she did, and my chicken plate had two backs and a drumstick, no white meat in sight. This was the second time it has happened at this KFC, different people working each time. The receipt had a place for a survey on it, so I took it and burned their ass good. I can't stand incompetence!

Go into any retail store with kids working, if the register doesn't tell them how much change to make, they are lost. If your bill comes out to say, $4.25, and you give them a $5 bill and a quarter so you can get a dollar bill back, they look at you dumbfounded and don't know what to do. They have completely lost the ability to do math in their heads!
And don't ask them a question, they will have to get a supervisor to come help them.

I hope the next generation does learn to listen. That's another of my pet peeves, you go to place your order and they stand there and listen to everything but you, then ask you if you want so and so, when you just told them what you wanted! I have probably been rude, my wife would say I was, to people like that. If you want the job, learn how to do it! That involves listening to directions!

Yeah, we're both getting old and cranky! Get off my yard!!!!

Yeah, it's sad. I've had these geniuses mess up a two item order. Hell, even a one item order. My wife went to get me a regular coffee at a DD and she came back with some flavored crap that I ended up just throwing away.

X2 I agree young kids have no concept of customer service, all they are interested in doing is messing with their phones. As stated above they can not do math in their heads without some machine/phone app telling them the answer. Makes me glad I am an old fart.

i agree that customer service is going downhill fast these days. people dont listen to what the customer wants, or you have to constantly repeat your order, or when you start your order they constantly talk over you asking questions about do you want this or that. and even when you finish your order, and you tell them that is all you want, they STILL ask you if you want to add a drink or apple pie, or what ever.

sometimes i want to tell them if i wanted a drink or apple pie, i would have ordered it. these days, i tell them to forget it and go somewhere else.

              WOW,

Talk about "old & cranky!" While I don't know your age, I must say you've got the "cranky" part down pat!

i am 58, and i worked in the customer service industry for 25 years in various positions, most it in the hotel industry, but i also did retail sales, among other things.

one thing i learned early on was that while the customer is not always right, the customer is always the customer. and if you want to keep them you have to take care of them given the limitations you have to work with.

as for being cranky, i earned that right damn it!! i could be even worse though considering i get to get up early in the morning, 4am, and go to a clinic three times a week, get stabbed with two needles large enough to sink an aircraft carrier, and bleed into a machine for over four hours.

You are so right Gene. I am with rbohm, there is no such thing as "customer service" any more. I am 59 closing in on 60 in a few months & I must say I feel with the more I age the crankier I get. I worked in the automotive business for 24 yrs in the service dept & in retail for 15 yrs & if I treated my customers the way I get treated some times I would not have any more customers.
