April was a tough month for car sales for Ford:

I wonder how that compares to the other companies sales. Is it enough to abruptly change direction, or just enough to signal a trend might be coming? I hope they are on the right track with this, if not, they may be on their way out of business in a few years....

Gotta say, as a guy who’s in the Ford repair trenches daily, if Ford is gonna pull this off, they better get their shyt together NOW, fire their design and engineering folks, and start designing vehicles that aren’t faulty right off the assembly line.

The redesigned ALUMINUM 2015-2018 F150 is a complete disaster.
Case in point, right now, I have a 2016 and a 2018 F150 in my two stalls.
Both customers are complaining about warped instrument panels. The warpage is above the instrument cluster at the base of the windshield, and the other side of the dash above the passenger airbag.
Ford issued a special service message (SSM) a couple of weeks ago telling us NOT to attempt any repairs while their “engineers” investigate a repair procedure. (Of course, we’ve already replaced several instrument panel skins that ended up looking the same.
The 2018 I mentioned above has only 7000 miles on it. The second repair line on the 2018 has the customer complaining about moisture in BOTH LED taillamp lenses. The left rear lens literally has 2” inches of water inside it.

Door latches that don’t work in temps below freezing, sunroof tracks that are made out of plastic that break, squeaks and rattles because of the aluminum body panels, the junk Sync 3 system, and I don’t do any engine/drivetrain work so I can’t even speak about that side of the vehicle (but I do know the 3.5 ecoboost engines have oil leak issues).
Those who are thinking about buying a 2015-2018 F150.....do yourself a favor and find a decent low mileage 2010-2014. You will come out WAAYYYY ahead in the long run.
Bottom line, the new body style F150’s are JUNK, and after 3 years on the market, Ford STILL can’t get them right.

.....and earlier this week, had a 2016 Mustang GT with no AC. Couldn’t find the Freon leak, so before recharging the system and adding dye, I decided to check Ford to see if they have any known issues. Turns out they have seen many evaporator core failures and advised us to do a pressure test on the evaporator core. Sure enough, this 2016 Mustang GT with only 15k miles.....has an AC evaporator core leak.
That is a pic of a GUTTED 2016 Mustang GT. Took me a day and a half to get it repaired. Doors have to come off to remove the instrument panel.

Now that is just piss poor engineering! Designed to slap together fast on the assembly line, screw the guy who has to work on it!

With a new/nearly new car that pi$$es me off when the interior has to get screwed with. I'm sure you did an exceptional job reinstalling the interior but what are the odds the car gets a rattle of squeek now that it had to come apart. They are only new once.

I had an issue with another great Ford engineering feat. My 2009 F350 had a bad oil pan leak and had the dealer take care of it before it went out of warranty as you have to take the whole d@mn cab off the truck to work on the engine I went to pick up the truck after the repair. It was two years old and still had flawless paint. A huge gouge in the bed, about a foot long. I went back in to complain and they didn't even fight it, they knew they damaged the panel putting the cab back on. Now it has a repaint on that side of the truck. After a month goes by, the wife hops in the truck and raises the power pedals. A harness must have been loose after the cab install as they stay'd up until I started wiggling crap under the dash. Still don't have the driver side seat heater working but haven't bothered with that yet. All of this over a stupid pan leak.

Quality is NOT Job 1 anymore. These lenses are made in the US. Remember, this is a 2018 F150 with less than 7k miles.

The more I see on the later models, I'm thinking my 05 Expy may be the newest model Ford I'll ever own. I might move up to an 05 F150 one of these days, but as long as my 99 keeps on clicking, it's got a home....
