Question: any of you experience a situation in which your tach (or other) light was brighter than other instruments?

Mine was brighter to the extent that it was just plain uncomfortable. Bear in mind that my panel is not a factory item, so maybe having mis-matched instruments was the cause (BTW, all lights can still be adjusted together to some degree using the control on the headlight switch). Whatever the reason for the imbalance, it just sucked.

I could have juggled light bulbs to get things more equal but decided on a different route. I installed a small regulator circuit that dropped the voltage available to the tach light to ~6 volts. Worked great!

I can’t stand bright dash lights. My radio in the truck has a 1/2” x 3” lcd screen, I have to cover it up at night, no way to dim it.
When I put my Lincoln dash together with SW gauges and factory speedometer, I got some 6v and some 12v bulbs mixed together, some were normal light, some were super bright! Had to swap around to get them all sorta the same. 6v bulbs on 12v are bright!
