  • chain ?

I have a piece of equipment that needs repair, its using a chain labeled KMC on most of the links. a few links are stamped 7F-2.
after researching a bit I find KMC chain for bicycles but none with 7F-2.........
what is up with that ? thanks

thanks Steve but I had gone over their selection without being sure of the size.

just an FYI, dont bother checking at Lowes or Home Depot, neither have anything even close.

so today I took a short piece of the chain & stopped a the local bicycle shop. I showed the man what I had & he asked how many master links
I needed. I asked for 2 & got them, when he gave me my change he asked if it was from a garage door opener.
I told him you are close, its from an opener but used on a homemade tool ..............

Could have been a Kmart item then. I remember before Sears bought them, they had some branded merchandise of their own with KMC on it.
What kind of home made tool is it Keith?

Bobby, I dont know about K mart......it seems KMC is a bike chain manufacturer.

this bike shop has been here for decades & there are rumors about this guy being very nosy ...... fortunately I was thinking quickly for a change () & just gave him that line of bs.

what the chain links are for is the window mechanisms in my coupe. the old units are getting difficult to operate so I decided to replace them. as originals actually move the window back & then down, the builder of this car used a unit that moves straight up & down.
after a LOT of research I found that these mechanisms are a chain drive unit from a late 70`s to mid 80`s Kenworth 900.

this is what they look like..................

            https://www.google.com/search?client...r-_XJV-uRjkhM:

unfortunately the early ones are shorter, used cheaper style chain and are no longer available so I bought these which are 5 " longer, use a better chain but work the same.
i had to shorten them to fit and the chains had no master or connecting links so I needed to find links.
I should take some pics & post them but I am just about finished the modifications to them.

I've been around trucks for the last 40 years, but that's the first time I ever saw a set of those. Now you say it's from a Kenworth, it makes sense, Kenworth Motor Corporation. When Kenworth merged with Peterbilt back in the 60's or 70's, it became the Kenworth division of PACCAR. So I'd date those to late 50's-early 60's design. Back then, they used the same parts for years, so it's possible it continued to the 80's. Now they seem to change stuff every year, sometime in the middle of the year!
