I'm a better grinder than welder. I can stick two pieces of metal together, but it's ugly.....

If I am in practice, I do pretty well. I just don't weld that often so I need to practice a bit before I need to weld something for real. I want to learn how to TIG but I don't have enough work for it to justify buying one.

I can mig much better than I can stick weld, but I credit the mig machine more than me. I’ve been meaning to sit down and practice more, I tend to just do small repairs that don’t take much time so I don’t get to practice for long. I need to get some stock and make something like a welding cart or welding table.

I enjoy stick and mig, although my mig is flux core. My welder is convertible to use gas or flux core, I just haven’t bought a bottle yet. I was going to get one from Tractor Supply and get on their bottle exchange program, but when I got ready to spend my money, they had quit carrying all gases. The welding supplies are only open Monday through Friday, so pretty much impossible for me to go to one. Maybe when I retire I can have time to get one. I can get wire and rods at the auto parts store or at Walmart.

I burned a lot of rods building the crossmember in the Lincoln. Love laying down a bead with a 6011! I even use them to cut thick stuff. Messy, but when you don’t own a torch you do what you have to do.

You’ll love gas, Bobby. I don’t think I have used my fluxcore since I went on the bottle.

I’ve heard that. My welding seems to be in spurts, I may not do any for nearly a year, then it seems like every time I turn around I’m welding something.
